Who is James Di Fiore?
James Di Fiore is a freelance writer, producer and hip hop artist whose vision for the city is centered around giving young voices a seat at the political table. Torontonians between the ages of 18-35 are the largest potential voting group in the city yet they are virtually ignored in municipal politics.
Voter apathy is the driving force that will get politicians like Rob Ford elected as mayor of Toronto. That’s right, if Ford gets elected it will be your fault. James understands this and is encouraging all young, new voters to mobilize so that Toronto can finally understand who actually hold the keys to City Hall. You.
James is no stranger to electoral politics. In 2004 he was hired by NOW Magazine to write an investigative piece outlining the flaws in our federal election laws which allowed non-citizens to vote during an election. The law also made it possible for individuals to vote several times, leaving the system ripe for abuse. James voted three times and was charged and convicted with violating the Elections Act, but his story led to changes in electoral law which forced voters to prove they were Canadian when they voted.
James is taking that same political energy to Election, 2010, where old, staunch politicians have hijacked the political construct from the very people who serve as the backbone of the city. You.
Young voices will be heard in 2010, and James Di Fiore will serve as the conduit to their call.
Vote James Di Fiore as mayor of Toronto in 2010.
